Our route after a week
Left Wroclaw this morning for Boleslawiec, stopping along the way
A Protestant church in Swidnica built in 1648 using "losing-a-war criteria"
1. Only wood, clay and straw for construction
2. Built outside town
3. No towers or bells
4. Construction completed in a year
It was done - seating 7,000 faithful
Highly decorated - A wonder to behold
Inside and Out
Next, and I almost missed this one we visited Zamek (Castle) Ksiaz
A pristine "campus" leading to a grand structure on a rocky hilltop
3rd largest castle in Poland with 415 rooms - tour doesn't include them all
We followed signs, without a guide, signage in Polish & English
One of the last occupants, before the Nazis took possession, Princess Daisy of Pless
She married at 18/ He was older
She was quite beautiful/ He bought her pearls
A strand she could wrap around herself/ $1.3M
No one knows where she's buried/ Or what happened to the pearls
Toured the terrace gardens clinging to the foundation
Hitler had chambers and tunnels built under the castle and into the hillsides
Using forced labor from concentration camps
Spending more on concrete and steel than all the bomb shelters in Germany
No one knows why - The papers are lost
It rained all day - Perfect weather for these little guys
Roads are quite good, but narrow
Fields in long strips, not squares
GPS is amazing
Arrived on Boleslawiec, home of Polish pottery

ReplyDeleteDid Hitler use the castle like his 'Eagles Nest' or is that unclear? That sounds like a LOT of concrete
